Topic Conversations that Matter: Integrating and Implementing Spirituality in Mental Health Practice
Contents At ASP, we are a group of mental health professionals who proceed from the assumption that spirituality can be implemented in the practice of mental health. We often still struggle, however, with many questions about the most effective ways to integrate spirituality into our practice.

Therefore, several pragmatic and theoretical questions emerge for exploration and discovery:

  • What role can spirituality play in the therapeutic process?
  • How do we include the body and its language?
  • How can we best integrate the personal and spiritual selves?
  • What is a “spiritual bypass” and how do its ramifications affect us?
  • What does a psycho-spiritual therapeutic practice look like on a daily basis?
  • When is it useful to avoid spirituality and focus on the individual self?

This evening we will have a chance to explore these and other questions. Come with your questions, thoughts, beliefs, case studies, stories, openness, and curiosity. We’ll walk away from our exploration with a deeper perspective on our own point of view, while allowing others to have theirs. May this be the first of many “Conversations that Matter” at the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy.
